Quick trip to Channapatna temples on the Mysore Road
Channapatna in Ramagara District in Karnataka is a calm and serene place a little over an hour drive from Bangalore South. Channapatna is very famous for wooden toys, but our purpose was to visit some prominent temples with a rich history
📌📌Sri Nadi Narasimha Swamy temple
This temple is surrounded by agricultural lands on the banks of the Kanva River.
History says that the temple was built 1000 years ago by Sage Kanva and the Mysore Maharaja had donated 12 acres of land for temple maintenance.Lord Narasimhadev has very sharp features and is magnificently seated position along with his consort Lakshmi devi.
It is a great place to be absolutely surrounded by wood apple trees, tamarind trees with water lilies, and kingfisher birds.
📌📌 Sri Aprameya Swami Temple
Very attractive deity Baby Krishna - Navneetha Krishna in a crawling pose. He is holding butter in his hand. Very captivated by His beauty, Purandara Dasa composed the famous Kriti Jagadhodarana...
The temple was built in the 11th century by the Chola King Rajendra Simha.
Apart from Navneetha Krishna, We took the darshan of Sri Ramapremeya Swami and Sri Arvindavalli deities (Perumal and Thaayar).
📌📌 Sri Varadaraja Swamy Temple
This temple is located in Madduru near Sri Narasimha Swamy temple. This temple has its own compound and it is built on a height. It hosts only one deity Sri Varadaraja Swamy. The priest mentioned that this deity was installed by the Chola king and by taking darshan of his eyes the king's mother got remedied from an incurable eye disease. The deity is so majestic at least 12 feet tall.
📌📌 Sri Ugra Narasimha Swamy Temple
The temple has some architecture from Hoysalas. The pillars are carved in black stones inside the sanctum. We can take darshan of the main exalted deity of Lord Narasimhadev with eight hands in his ugra form with 8 hands. 2 of them holding the intestines of demon Hiranyakasipu which appears like a garland, 2 of them resting on his lap, 4 of them are holding cakra, conch, gada and lotus. On his left side Garuda deity and right side Prahlad Maharaj both are in praying to the Lord.
The temple also has a unique darshan of Mother Yashoda feeding baby Krishna. This darshan is not seen anywhere.
We can also take darshan of Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Bhakta Hanuman here. Sri Hanuman is on the left side of Lord Rama in a standing posture he is using his right hand to cover his mouth so his spit does not reach the Lord.
The temple also has colorful paintings from Bhagavatam Gajendra Pastimes, yoga Narasimhadev which are very colorful with lots of details.

I had visited Sri Varadaraja Swamy Temple on my way to Melkote temple. The perumal definitely stands majestically and is one temple still fresh in my memory.
